MUSIC = an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color.
From the beginning of the world, MUSIC has always been a part of our lives.
Nowadays we can find MUSIC everywhere. But many years ago it was only for a few privileged people.
In the mid-fifties POPULAR MUSIC (POP) was born. It combines a plethora of musical styles, melodies with simple rhythms and light-hearted lyrics.
One of the branches of POP is ROCK´N´ROLL. A New Yorker dj called ALAN FREED popularized this Afro-American slang for sex when he attached it to a teen oriented form of music.
Although "Rock around the clock" by Bill Haley & his comets was not the first R´N´R song, it is the most popular, and it was the first R´N´R single to top the charts, including BILLBOARD.
Some other leading exponents are : Chuck Berry, Eddie Cochran, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard and Gene Vincent.
Others more POP are : Paul Anka, The Everly Brothers, The Platters,........
Elvis Aaron Presley , became the most popular artist in the mid-fifties. His first hit was recorded in 1954. "That`s all right Mama", a song from the 40`s was recorded as a present for his mother. In 1956 "Heartbrake Hotel" was on top of the charts. Elvis singles made the charts until 1958 when he went into the U.S. ARMY. In 1965, The Beatles met him in BEL AIR. He won a GRAMMY prize in 1967 with "How great thou art". The same year he marries PRISCILLA. A year later LISA MARIE was born. His last concert was in LAS VEGAS in 1976. He made 32 films. More than 100 singles were on the charts all over the world. He died in 1977.
